10 tips for relaxed wedding photos

(even if you hate having your picture taken)

“Oh no, I look so awkward in photos!” – if I had a euro every time a bride said this to me, I’d be sitting in a cozy cottage with a view of the mountains somewhere in Scotland right now. 😉

Don't worry. You really don't have to be a model to get beautiful wedding photos. It's not about how you look, but how you feel. And that's where I'll help you. Here are my 10 personal tips to look relaxed in photos - as if you're just on a nice walk with your loved one.

1. Don't think of it as a photo shoot

Don't overthink it. It's not a 'posing moment', just quality time with your partner. I'm just there with a camera. :)

2. Choose a photographer you click with

Feeling a connection is so important. You want to feel comfortable, like you have a friend with you. Only then can you be yourself.

3. Enjoy the moments together

Your wedding day is all about the two of you. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the day and enjoy those quiet moments together. Whether it’s a quiet cup of coffee, listening to your favorite song during the ceremony, or taking a walk together between the festivities — those small, intimate moments bring out the real emotions. And that shows in the photos!

4. Feel comfortable in your wedding dress

You don’t have to choose between beautiful and comfortable. Go for wedding clothes that allow you to move freely, dance freely, and most importantly: feel like yourself. Whether that means a dress with pockets, flat shoes under your suit, or simply no tie because it doesn’t suit you – it’s your day, so your rules. If you feel good, it will show in the photos.

5. Let me do the work

You don't have to know how to stand. I give small & helpfull instructions or ask questions that make you laugh. That way you get photos that you recognize yourself in.

6. Breathe in, breathe out

Really. Just taking a deep breath does wonders. You're allowed to be nervous. We'll take our time. At the same time shake loose those shoulders...

7. Schedule space in your day

Nothing is as stressful as having to rush. Give yourself enough time, and you will feel calmer - and that will show in the photos.

8. Put on a nice playlist

Music relaxes. We can put on your favorite songs during the shoot. Everything to make the atmosphere your own.

9. Look at each other, not at me

The way you look at your partner? That is often the most beautiful image. Really, that captures love so purely.

10. Perfect doesn't have to be

A lock of loose hair? Sand in your shoes? That's what makes it real. Real moments are always more beautiful than perfect pictures.

What we call 'the photoshoot' (and what I do the rest of the day)

Those moments where we actually take pictures together – what many people call ‘the photoshoot’ – usually don’t last that long. We make it something light and fun, without fuss or forced poses. Think of it as a mini-break together, away from the hustle and bustle.

The rest of the day I am very inconspicuous. No fuss with flashes or: “Look at me!” – I work in a documentary style, which means that I capture your story as it really is. You don’t have to pay attention to me all the time, I move with what is happening and capture the real moments: a look, a hand on your back, that giggle with your mother. Those are the photos that you look back on with a smile later.
